Social Service Outreach

St. Mary’s Cathedral serves the needy of our Northwest Neighborhood. Lift Urban Portland is a long-term partner of the cathedral in addressing the needs of the poor in our community. Cathedral Social Services provides food and financial support to the Lift food pantry at First Immanuel Lutheran Church and contributes to special projects throughout the year. A Cathedral parishioner serves on the Lift Urban Portland board.

St. Mary’s Cathedral provides support for Macdonald Center, a residence for low-income disabled adults and also a center for outreach services for the very poor of downtown Portland. Cathedral parish supports Macdonald Center in many ways, including the support of spiritual retreats, providing home baked goods, celebrating holidays and birthdays, and distributing winter necessities.

St. Mary's Cathedral works collaboratively with and in support of:

  • Catholic Charities Resettlement Program

  • New Avenues for Youth

  • Cares NW

  • Rose Haven

  • Blanchet House

  • St. Andre Bessette Parish (Downtown Chapel)

  • Veteran Family Services

  • Dress for Success.

The office also provides school supplies for local educational agencies.
