St. Mary's Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception

Coronavirus Update

Dear Parishioners and Friends,

Many of you are asking about participation at Sunday Mass in light of the COVID-19 virus (the “coronavirus”) and Governor Kate Brown’s edict regarding public gatherings of more than 250 persons.

First of all, we will be celebrating the usual five weekend Masses at St. Mary’s Cathedral for this Third Sunday of Lent.  I am guessing that our number will not exceed 250 at any single Mass.

Secondly, please see the memo and dispensation from Archbishop Sample regarding attendance at Sunday Mass.

In short, Archbishop Sample dispenses the following from the obligation of attending Sunday Mass:

            -           all persons 60 years and older;

            -           persons who have underlying medical issues that put them at risk, or persons with compromised immune systems;

            -           persons who are not feeling well even with mild symptoms;

            -           others of any age who sincerely and seriously think they might be at risk.

If you are unable to attend, but wish to give a Sunday offering, please use WeShare (https://maryscathedral.weshareonline.org/).

These are extraordinary times, and thus extraordinary measures must be taken for the common good.  Let’s hope and pray that this virus might be contained quickly and that we can return to our regular communal celebration of the Eucharist.  Thank you for your attention to this.  Let’s pray for one another.
