Confirmation is a strengthening of "baptismal grace" (CCC 1285) whereby one becomes a public witness of the Catholic faith. Confirmation is considered one of the sacraments of Christian initiation and ministed by the bishop. Confirmation preparation is important in helping the baptized understand the full meaning and gift of the graces recevied, particularly in relation to the Holy Spirit, so that they might be strenghtened to go out and proclaim the good news.
