August Bible Study
Join seminarian Tristan Schubert for a bible study that forays into the person and writings of St. Paul! How many letters did Paul write to the Corinthians? I bet none of you would have guessed that the correct answer is actually four! The letters to the Corinthians reveal struggles present in the early church that have sharp parallels to our experience today. Paul sought to bridge their divisions in those times, and the theological truths he shared can unite us together in a community of faith through an ever-deepening relationship with God. We will meet three Tuesdays in August—the 13th, 20th, and 27th—from 1:00-2:30pm in the Cathedral School Library. Come to learn, discuss, and pray our way through these letters. Bring your Bibles! | 14 Novena for Cathedral Construction Begins
We invite you to participate with us in a Novena for the smooth, swift and successful completion of the construction work on the adjoining buildings to our beloved St. Mary's Cathedral and its courtyard. We will be praying Mother Teresa's Flying Novena from August 14th to August 23rd, simultaneously encompassing the Assumption on the 15th and the Queenship of Mary on the 22nd. Mother Teresa would pray 9 Memorares for any urgent intention, and then one in thanksgiving. She would continue to pray this, until her request had been answered! Each day we'll say 10 Memorares each day for 10 days (9 in petition, and 1 in thanksgiving) starting on August 14th and continuing through August 23rd. The Memorare is as follows: Remember, O Most Gracious Virgin Mary, that never was it known, that anyone who fled to your protection, implored your help, or sought your intercession was left unaided. Inspired by this confidence, we fly unto thee, O Virgin of virgins, Our Mother. To thee do we come, before thee we stand, sinful and sorrowful. O Mother of the Word Incarnate, despise not our petitions, but in your Mercy, hear and answer us. If you wish to do so, please also add a Prayer to St. Joseph, so that his intercession for your personally and for this project, as well as his carpentry can be put to good use: O Glorious Patriarch St. Joseph, you who were chosen by God above all men to be the earthly head of the most holy of families, I beseech you to accept me within the folds of your holy cloak, that you may become the guardian and custodian of my soul. From this moment on, I choose you as my father, my protector, my counselor, my patron, and I beseech you to place in your custody my body, my soul, all that I am, all that I possess, my life and my death. Look upon me as one of your children; defend me from the treachery of my enemies, invisible or otherwise, assist me at all times in all my necessities; console me in the bitterness of my life, and especially at the hour of my death. Say but one word for me to the Divine Redeemer whom you were deemed worthy to hold in your arms, and to the Blessed Virgin Mary, your most chaste spouse. Request for me those blessings which will lead me to salvation. Include me amongst those who are most dear to you and I shall set forth to prove myself worthy of your special patronage. Amen.
