The Eucharist is "the source and summit of the Christian life (CCC 1324) and is a participation in Christ's sacrifice for our salvation. Receiving the Eucharist is to receive Christ himself, and to be in communion with him. Seen in this light, proper reception of the Eucharist is necessary and therefore closely related to the sacrament of reconciliation (confession).

First Holy Communion and first reconciliation preparation is a two year program at the Cathedral. Preparation ideally begins in 1st grade and will continue through 2nd grade. Classes are held on Sundays after the 9AM mass for 1 hour in the Cathedral School library.
