What the Eucharist Is

The Eucharist is "the source and summit of the Christian life (CCC 1324) and is a participation in Christ's sacrifice for our salvation. Receiving the Eucharist is to receive Christ himself, and to be in communion with him. Seen in this light, proper reception of the Eucharist is necessary and therefore closely related to the sacrament of reconciliation (confession).
