The Eucharist is "the source and summit of the Christian life (CCC 1324) and is a participation in Christ's sacrifice for our salvation. Receiving the Eucharist is to receive Christ himself, and to be in communion with him. Seen in this light, proper reception of the Eucharist is necessary and therefore closely related to the sacrament of reconciliation (confession).
First Holy Communion and first reconciliation preparation is a two year program at the Cathedral. Preparation ideally begins in 1st grade and will continue through 2nd grade. Classes are held on Sundays after the 9AM mass for 1 hour in the Cathedral School library. To register, please provide Brigid Young with the following information:
1) Child's DOB & grade for 2021-2022 school year
2) School child attends
3) Copy of Baptismal certificate (if they were baptized here, we will find the records for you)
4) Are you a parishioner of St. Mary's Cathedral?
*Weekly Sunday Mass attendance as well as parent involvement is required
This year’s fee is $50. Please make checks payable to St. Mary’s Cathedral and write in the memo: 1st communion prep. Our guiding curriculums are Faith and Life Series grade 1 from Ignatius Press and Signs of Grace from Augustine Institute
1st Communion classes occur every Sunday (excluding holidays) beginning September 19th, 2021 after the 9AM mass in the school library. 1st Holy Communion is on Sunday, May 1, 2022 at the 9AM mass.
