Centennial Project

The Centennial Project is an initiative to finally raise the environs of the cathedral block to a beauty which becomes such a noble edifice. For many years we have been struggling to come up with a way forward for this exterior project and now we have settled on a plan for the landscaping and design features of a safe and practical aesthetic. This project also encompasses the reworking of the sidewalks on both NW 18th Avenue and NW Couch Street, which are major projects in and of themselves.

This Centennial Project is not inexpensive. We estimate this phase, which does not include the inner courtyard, will cost $500,000.

The good news is that we already have raised $220,000 through the generous donations of just a few parishioners. Before we go to the rest of our parishioners we want to have raised $300,000.

We hope to raise $300,00 before the anniversary of the dedication of the cathedral (14 February 2026) at which point we will begin the campaign to raise the remaining $200,000 from the registered parishioners and friends of St. Mary’s Cathedral.

This project is being supervised by a small committee led by its co-chairs Wendy Lane Stevens and Tom Brenneke. I thank them for their leadership on this initiative and encourage you to reach out to them if you have any questions.

We are grateful that you would consider joining us in this great project. If you have any questions whatsoever please do not hesitate to contact me directly, or speak to Tom or Wendy.
